The predecessor of the school was the Department of Radio Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology, founded in 1959. In 2009, it was officially established as the School of Electronics and Information Engineering. The school has been committed to addressing major strategic issues closely related to the national economy and cultivating innovative talents with international competitiveness who are capable of solving practical engineering problems. In the early 1980s, the school won one Second-Class National Award for Science and Technology Progress; in the late 1980s, it obtained one First-Class National Award for Science and Technology Progress; in the mid-1990s, it earned one Third-Class National Award for Science and Technology Progress. Since the 21st century, the school has successively won one First-Class and one Second-Class National Award for Science and Technology Progress respectively.

Upholding HIT’s school motto of “Strict Standards and Solid Foundation”, the school has always kept abreast of international frontiers, focused on original innovation, and emphasized the transformation and practical application of achievements. With electronic information systems as its main research object, and facing the international academic frontiers and national needs, it has built a base for major basic theoretical innovation in the information field. Aiming at cultivating innovative capabilities and featuring the training of engineering leaders, it has established a base for cultivating high-level innovative talents in the electronic information field by relying on a first-class scientific research environment. Driven by major scientific research projects and focusing on the application and transformation of scientific research achievements, it has constructed a base for nurturing innovative achievements in aerospace information science and technology. The school’s goal is to build a world-class discipline of Information and Communication Engineering, making it rank among the top domestic first-class disciplines and enter the ranks of world-class disciplines by 2020.
